| As you may know, the FDA has a grading system for each drug which reflects its safety. It ranks drugs from A, where medical studies show no evidence for danger to the baby or the mother, to B, C, D and X, where the medical evidence indicates that the risk to the baby outweighs any benefit to mom. Oxytrol is rated at a B.
I would be very comfortable taking Oxytrol while breastfeeding. The small amount that actually gets to your baby has not been shown to have side effects to your baby…and my babies are much happier with a healthier mom!
However, if you are still concerned , just remember that you can help decrease the amount of any drug that enters your breastmilk by taking the medication just after you have breastfed your baby or just before she is due to have a long nap!
