I was lucky enough to be able to breastfeed both of my children. My children are grown now and one of them has a child of their own.

Back in the day, it wasn't the "thing" to breastfeed. Bottle feeding was all the rage, egged on by advertising by formula companies.

My favorite part of breastfeeding was the intimate time that was shared with that child and me.

Although others could be present, and often were, breastfeeding was a time for us --me and my baby. The feel of skin against skin -- watching the child suckle and flex and unflex their hand are precious memories.

I also liked that I was the only one who could perform this task. Other people could bathe or change diapers but only I was providing my child with nourishment. It was a feeling of deep satisfaction, serious accomplishment.
