Breastfeeding a Toddler
Mary’s Breastfeeding Story of Breastfeeding a Toddler
I am a mom of a 2 ˝ year old. She nursed until she was a little over 2 years.
It is still sometimes sad that I discontinued because my daughter will look up at me with sad eyes, pat my chest and tell me “milk all gone.” Breast-feeding was difficult for me in the beginning and became extremely painful after one week. However, I am a very stubborn person and refused to give up, like I have seen so many mothers on television with less difficulty then me, do. After about four weeks of alternating pumping and bottle with breast-feeding, I recovered and was able to nurse normally. Nursing has created a special bond and relationship with my daughter. I only stopped nursing, because I am pregnant again and has become too painful. In the first two years of her life, my daughter was only sick once. Nursing has been a wonderful way to soothe the hurts that come with being a toddler, and I plan of nursing at least as long with my next child.
