Breastfeeding for Extended Periods
Submitted by A.K (Texas, U.S.)I had two babies and breastfed both for extended periods. I had no major problems either time. Our first child, a daughter, was born about 5:30 in the afternoon. A nurse showed me what to do and got me started. Our daughter fed all night long. I didn't try to stop her and I didn't worry about lack of sleep. It was just so amazing to have her. I found breast feeding to be so easy and rewarding. My children fed easily, grew rapidly and were never really sick. We spent no money on formula; food was available to them whenever they wanted. It was comforting to them and good for me, too. When they cried in the middle of the night I just pulled them close; they ate and then slept and I got my rest, too. I would have been of no use to them during the day if I was exhausted from the night before. The only bad thing I can say about my breast feeding experience is that it ended too soon. Both babies are adults now but I have wonderful memories of the closeness of those special times with them.
