How to Help Pain of Weaning

by Kobe
(Edwardsville, IL, USA)

Visitor Question: I have breastfed my daughter for 17 months and am now quitting. I was wondering if there is anything to help the process of drying up go faster or to help with the pain?

Breastfeeding Magazine Response: We recommend that you try some therapeutic hot/cold breast gel packs placed in your bra for comfort. They can provide relief of breast pain caused by the weaning process.

As long as you have been weaning gradually, the process usually takes about a week before the pain is completely gone.

Good luck!
