My Struggle to Breastfeed
My name is Emily and I live in Denver Colorado. My son was born in December, and I had spent the 9 months that I was pregnant planning out how I was going to breastfeed. Unfortunately, I was not aware of how difficult it was going to be for me. The first time I tried to be breastfeed, we had a very difficult time getting my son to latch on. I learned that having patience while trying to adjust to breastfeeding is the most important thing. I have also learned that it is not going to just magically work the first time. My favorite thing about nursing now that we have it down, is the bonding feeling that I have. Just knowing that I am giving him the nutrients that he needs, and that he depends on me to feed him is a wonderful feeling. There are some days when we still have latching issues, but, I have to remind myself, to be patient, and not give up. When your child has a hard time latching, there are nipple shields that you can use that can help. So don't give up until you look into all of your options, there is always a way when there is a will to make it work.
