Period or Pregnant while Breastfeeding?

Am I pregnant?

Am I pregnant?

Visitor Question: I have a 4 month old that I breastfeed exclusively, although about half the time it is breast milk in a bottle because of her weak sucking. When she was just over 3 months, I experienced some very light spotting that occurred for less than 12 hours. About 3 weeks later, the spotting returned and lasted 2 days, although sporadic in the 2 days and still very light.

How do I know if it is a period or if I might be pregnant?

Breastfeeding Magazine Response: It is very possible to get pregnant while breastfeeding.

However, it sounds more like a light period than symptoms of pregnancy.

Check out our breastfeeding while pregnant page for symptoms of pregnancy while nursing.

If you are still concerned, take a home pregnancy test to be sure!

Good luck!
