Visitor Question: This is the first time i have used a breast pump, i am finding it really tricky to use, you have to press it really hard against your breast or else it leaks, also finding that you have to slightly lean forward is not good for your back. If anyone has any helpful tips it would be really appreciated.

Breastfeeding Magazine Response: You may want to try using a breast shield when you pump. They are a great option for mothers who find the softer, more flexible, silicon material a better fit when pumping with less leakage.

Some of breast pump companies like Ameda and Medela have even developed several sizes of flanges to work with their breast pumps so that they can fit comfortably for many different nipple sizes. This allows moms to get an almost customized fit for their breast pump.

We do not believe that Avent has that option at this time, so you may want to try another pump to see if that works better for you.
