Visitor Question: I am exclusively breastfeeding my daughter. She is almost 6 weeks old. I started my period today, is this normal or should I contact my doctor? I thought if I was breastfeeding I would not start my period so soon. She does not take a bottle or pacifier. She nurses every 2 hours during the day and every 3-4 hours at night.

Breastfeeding Magazine Response: Some women start their periods right away and some do not start menstruating again until their children are introduced to solid foods or start sleeping through the night.

Every woman is different. There is no need to worry.
Congratulations on your new little one!
