Vicodin and Breastfeeding

by Lucky

My beautiful son

My beautiful son

Visitor Question: I have been taking 1 to 2 Vicodin a day for back and neck injury; will this harm the baby while breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding Magazine Response: Vicodin is considered a risk category L3 which are considered moderately safe for breastfeeding moms.

There has been no evidence of risk to babies exposed to Vicodin in breastmilk.

However, keep an eye on your son for sedation, apnea, or constipation which are the possible side effects known in babies.

To reduce his exposure, try nursing him immediately before you take the pill...and his exposure will be very limited.

Good luck! He is beautiful!
