Will My Milk Supply Keep Up?

by Jodi
(Michigan)

Visitor Question: I breastfeed my two month old son while he is with me and pump a supply for my sitters while he is away from me. As he gets older, I will need to pump more of a supply, (6-8 ounces per feed). I worry I won't produce enough when I pump so he has milk while I am away for him. Will I make enough?

Breastfeeding Magazine Response: The best way to insure that you will keep up your little one's appetite is to try to make sure that you pump often and completely while you are apart.

Try to pump at the same times of the day as your son would eat while you are together and make sure that you pump until you are completely empty so that your milk supply is encouraged to keep up with the demand.

Good luck!
